Accepting the permanency of the break up perhaps is the most difficult part. One is conditioned to believe that eventually after a while your ex is going to realize his/her mistake and shall come back to you; repentant and grieving.
Though this does happen at times, sometimes some of us are not lucky enough. We are then left to deal with the pain...alone with the crumbling walls of what we call our life!
While it is natural to grieve the loss of a precious relationship, you need to realize that the pain will go only when you make it go away. Here are some steps that you should take to banish the pain:
• Quit questioning! Give your mind a break: Going over and over what went wrong and why things went wrong is not going to get you anywhere. You need to be in an objective frame of mind to identify clearly the reason that led to your break up.
So quit trying to do that as you will not get a satisfactory answer. All you will see is either how wrong you were or how wrong your ex was which will make you angrier and will also make you hurt more.
• Look for support! Sharing it reduces it: Your friends and family are your support system. Don't be alone at a time like this. Being around your friends and family will help you take your mind off your ex even if it is just for a while. Taking these small steps and taking help form people who have your best interests at heart eases the pain...believe it or not!
• Get busy! Empty mind is a breeding ground for more pain: There's nothing worse than having an empty life and an empty mind. If your mind is not occupied with positive things then it will get busy going on the sorry mode...pulling you further down the depths of despair. Your aim should be to get so busy that at the end of the day you don't have any time to think of your ex.
Go ahead and fill your days with as many activities as you want. Take up anything that interests you like learning a new language, going for drama workshops or taking up a new sport or just concentrating on doing better at your job. Once you get your days full, start going out with your friends and try meeting new people.
• Take a vacation: Taking a vacation can be one of the best ways to get over an aching heart. Go alone or take a friend with you...but aim at having a good time or atleast make an effort.
Going away from familiar surroundings can really help in coping with break-ups as it takes you away from all past memories or reminders of your failed relationship. So, take an adventure holiday and come back rejuvenated to deal with your life.
Take one day at a time and slowly you'll see that you've not thought of your ex in a while!
